Reading at Holy Trinity

At Holy Trinity we know how important Reading is for every child!

We use a synthetic phonics programme, through a daily phonics session in Classes 1 and 2 , to ensure that reading is taught in a fun and systematic way.

Our reading scheme uses the Book Banding approach and includes books from a wide variety of schemes , both fiction and non-fiction, and ‘real’ books including Collins Big Cats and Phonics, Oxford Reading Tree, OUP, Project X and Rigby Star.

All the pupils at Holy Trinity are given a personal log in for Bug Club which is an on-line reading resource. Teachers allocate books to a ‘virtual bookbag’ which the child accesses at home and in school to help support their reading. In addition each child has access to Spellodrome through Mathletics, an on-line maths resource, for which the school pays a subscription to for each child.

In addition we have lots of books in classes, a wide guided reading set range and a well stocked and ever expanding school library!

We hold regular workshops for our new and existing parents with ideas on how to support your child’s reading at home. If you have any queries then please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs Welsh who is our Literacy Subject Leader.
