Our Summer Term Topic is...

They Came, They Saw, They Conquered!

We are enjoying finding out about the Roman invasion of Britain. So far we have thought about the reasons why the Romans wanted to invade our shores and how and why they were so successful. We have been finding out about the life of a Roman Soldier and how hard they worked.

In Science, in Year 6, we have been looking at circuits and how they work. We can use different vocabulary when explaining our ideas including: battery, mains, bulb, motor, wires, switch, circuit, voltage, amps, conductor and insulator. We have also looked at the international symbols that are used for drawings of circuits. We have had lots of fun making our own circuits and trying to make the bulbs shine brighter or the motors run faster.

We had an amazing time in the Isle of Wight. We went on lots of different visits and learnt lots about ourselves and what we could do independently.

Our Spring Term 2019 topic is...

Epic Earthquakes & Violent Volcanoes

During the first half of the Spring Term, we have focussed on earthquakes. We have found out about how and why earthquakes occur; where the world's major earthquake zones are including the Pacific Ring of Fire; looked at what to do in the event of an earthquake; and designed earthquake-proof buildings. We have found it to be really interesting and we have even practised the earthquake drill of Drop, Cover and Hold On!

On Wednesday 27th March, we had a French day in school. We all got to visit the market to practise our French skills, we tried some French cheeses, we ate croissants at break time, played petanque in P.E. and created our own masterpieces based on the work of Henri Matisse. We had a super day!

On Friday 1st February, we had a special Pirate theme day in school. We were visited by Captain Morgan who set us a Maths problem which we had to solve with clues so that she could get back to her pirate ship - The Good Ship Mathematics! We also did some writing about pirates and found out some really interesting facts. We were richly rewarded with pieces of eight once we had solved the clues.

Well Being Week 4th - 8th February 2019

This week in school we have been focussing on the importance of looking after ourselves both on the outside, as well as the inside. We began the week with a special assembly led by a representative from the charity 'Mind' who came to talk to us about the importance of talking about our feelings, especially when we are feeling sad, anxious or confused. We have taken part in a variety of activities including mindfulness, meditation and yoga. We also talked about how to stay safe online when we marked national e-safety day on Tuesday 5th February. We designed some posters with important messages which will be displayed around the school.

For the Autumn term our topic is...

YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!

which is all about World War 1 and 2. We are very excited about our forthcoming trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford and can't wait to do some cooking using rationed foods. Our reading area has been turned into an air raid shelter and every so often we hear the siren and we have to get to safety!

We are enjoying reading War Horse by Michael Morpurgo which tells the story of Joey, a red-bay colt who took part in World War 1. We can't wait to find out what happens next....
We had a fantastic time at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. We saw lots of different aircraft as well as exhibitions and memorabilia from both world wars. We particularly liked having the opportunity to go onto some aircraft including the world-famous Concorde.
