Summer Term
In the Summer term our project is based on a DT and dance theme and is titled:
Come to the fayre!
Our key concepts for this term are:
Friendship, Happiness and Belief
Project
In Project lessons, we have been thinking about the key questions linked to our key concepts and have discussed and shared our views on what makes us happy, what qualities are needed for a good friendship.
Coronation Celebrations
We have kicked off celebrations this term in honour of King Charles and the coronation by completing various activities such as creating side profile collages of King Charles's face!
Maths
We have been learning to tell the time in Beech Class. Year 2 children have been learning to tell time using vocabulary like o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.
Year 3 children have been learning to tell the time to the nearest minute and have been learning to tell the time in Roman numerals.
English
In English, we have been looking at features of instructions and innovating a good example to make our own. We have been writing our innovated versions of instructions and have included features such as bossy verbs, adverbs, time adverbials. Year 3 children have also been including commas, colons and brackets.
Science
This term in Beech Class, Year 2 pupils have been finding out about animals and their habitats. We have been learning about why certain animals live in different habitats such as a fish living in a pond. We have been finding out about how animals adapt to their surroundings and what they need to survive.
Year 3 pupils have been looking at nutrition and the different food groups there are. They have also been discussing why a balanced diet is important to us and what benefits come with each of the food groups.
Spring Term
This term our project is focused on Geography and is titled:
Aloha! Aloha!
Our key concepts for this term are:
Transformation, Peace and Wisdom
In project, we have been learning about physical and human geography along with making comparison to Hawaii. We have been researching Hawaii and have discovered lots of interesting facts such as triggerfish live there!
English
This term in English ,we have been creating and writing persuasive posters about Trigger fish after researching about them, using different sources like the internet, books and fact files.
We have also been reading our class text called 'Hawaiian Goddess of Fire' which links to our topic. We have then created our own story maps to help us remember the story for when it comes to writing our own version of the story.
Maths
This term we will be looking at different ways to multiply and divide. We will then be applying these skills to answer reasoning questions including word problems.
We will also be looking at fractions where Year 2 will be learning about how to find fractions of whole numbers. Year 3 will be learning how to order fractions and how to turn them into decimals.
Science
In the Spring term, Year 2 will be learning about plants and seasonal changes. We will have the opportunity to look at different seeds closely and plant our own!
Year 3 will be learning about light where we will be exploring light sources and carrying out experiments to find out how shadows are formed.
Autumn Term
This term our project is based on History and is titled:
They Came, They Saw, The Conquered
Our key concepts for this term are:
Strength, Power and Fairness
We have been learning about The Romans and the invasion of Britain.
We have made posters of what the Romans would wear when they invaded Britain.
English
In English we have been reading about ' The Lion Inside' by Rachel Bright. This links to our key concept of strength. We have been using Talk For Writing to write our narratives based on the story. We have then innovated our stories to write our own versions using noun phrases and a range of punctuation like speech marks and exclamation marks.
Maths
This term in Maths we have been learning about Place Value where we are learning to identify the values of hundreds, tens and ones in given numbers. We have been using base 10, numicon and place value counters to represent numbers.
We will be moving on to addition and subtraction soon where we will be learning how to add and subtract 2 or 3 digit numbers.
Book Bingo
These are our book bingo books for this year. They can be found in our reading corner display.
Science
Our Year 2 children have been learning about materials this term. They have had opportunities to explore a range of everyday materials to predict which one they think would be best to use for a spillage. This will be followed by an experiment to see whose predictions might have been right!
Our Year 3 children have been exploring different rocks to see which on would be suitable to use for a children's park pathway. We will also be making predictions of which type of rock will be suitable to use. This will then be followed by an experiment to find out! We will also be looking at forces and magnets this term.
